Eureka, Ca., (KIEM) North Coast Co-Op in Eureka is bringing back their security service after a several-month-long hiatus because of financial troubles last fall.

They say they want both shoppers and employees to feel safe and they’ve taken advantage of new city codes that prohibit trespassing on private property.

The city is also taking steps to improve safety in the area by having a full-time police officer in Old Town who will make sure entryways are clean and clear for business.

The Operations Manager for North Coast Co-Op says it costs nearly $6,000 a month for security guard coverage at the store.

She says it’s not enough for the hours they’re open but she hopes the partnership with Eureka Police will eliminate the need for more security guards.
