First Annexation in Eureka since 1980s

EUREKA (KIEM)- The City of Eureka has annexed the first land into the city limits since the 1980s.

The property includes the California Redwood Company Property, also known as Brainard, and the adjacent railroad and a portion of Highway 101.

Since the 1990s, the city’s goal has been to identify “turn-key industrial sites” and to stimulate the creation of new industrial and manufacturing jobs.

The City of Eureka believes annexation of Brainard will enhance the economic vitality of the city and allow for new economic development.

According to the Director of Development Services, the decision on what to do with the land is up to the owner, because the city does not own it. The city suggests further development of the property would be the best choice moving forward.
