FERNDALE, Ca (KIEM)– The flag pole at the Humboldt County Fair racetrack is getting a facelift and new American flag just in time for the annual County Fair.

The Native Sons of the Golden West Ferndale Parlor 93 volunteered Tuesday to clean and re-paint the flag pole white. The work is getting done just before next month’s county fair.

For the last 50 years, the local group raises the flag every day during horse racing. They want visitors to see their work when the fair comes to the Cream City.

“We volunteer to do a lot of things. Our organization is a fraternal organization of California natives dedicated to the preservation of California history and artifacts. We want to show the best angle, and foot forward for the Fairgrounds and all the fairgoers,” said Keith Coulombe, the first Vice President of the Native Sons of the Golden West Ferndale Parlor.

The Native Sons of the Gold West Ferndale say the new flag pole will be completed by Wednesday.
