Milepost 97 Fire in Southern Oregon grows to 11,000 acres

Southern Oregon, (KIEM) The Milepost 97 Fire along Interstate 5 in Southern Oregon has grown to nearly 11,000 acres overnight and is currently 5% contained.

Officials say fire crews are focusing on spot fires as well as creating a line along the I-5 corridor and along the south and southeastern edges of the fire.

Oregon fire officials say crews worked to contain spot fires across I-5 near the Turkey Creek/Milepost 94 Area and along I-5.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office evacuations notices have been issued for residents near the fire.

More than 900 firefighters are working to put the fire out.

The Milepost 97 Fire started around 10:00 Wednesday night near Canyonville.
