AT&T Appeals Trinidad Planning Commission’s Decision to City Council

TRINIDAD, Ca (KIEM) – Back in July the Planning Commission voted “no” to installing a 75-foot cell phone tower out on Berry Road. But now AT&T is appealing that decision.

Residents voiced their concerns at the Planning Commission meeting explaining they don’t want the cell tower on Berry Road. Now it’s up to the City Council to either uphold the Commission’s decision or overturn it.

Right now the tower is up on Trinidad Head. The contract was supposed to expire this month.  But because of the appeal, they’re in a hold period.

“They’re hoping to be able to put in a cell tower at that location. They’re also talking about the fact that their current cell tower on Trinidad Head, they’re sharing that with Verizon. That’s to sunset fairly soon, and they want to make sure that they have continued coverage,” said Eli Naffah, Trinidad City Manager.

The Trinidad City Council will meet Tuesday night at six in the Town Hall.
