Good Samaritan Extinguishes Church Fire in Eureka

EUREKA (KIEM)– Authorities are investigating a church fire that broke out in Eureka.

Emergency personnel responded to the Christ Church Episcopal on 15th and H Street around 8 Friday night for reports of a fire.

When crews arrived, almost all flames were extinguished.

That’s all thanks to a Good Samaritan who saw the fire. The individual pulled over, ran up to the church, found a hose on the side of the building and put out the fire.

A number of witnesses were on the scene and told redwood news that the suspect who started the fire, walked to a payphone and turn himself in, however, we were not able to verify that information.

The fire is believed to be kept to the exterior.

The church was scheduled to celebrate their 150th anniversary this Sunday.
