New Law Provides Cannabis Labeling and Marketing Protections

CALIFORNIA (KIEM) —  Last week, Governor Gavin Newsom signed a large number of bills into law including one that give geographic protections for cannabis.

Cannabis farmers can now secure the same protections as the wine industry based on the geographic region the crop is grown.

The new law will prevent cannabis manufactures from claiming their product is grown in Humboldt County, for example, it is were grown elsewhere.

SB-185 expands on prohibitions already in place from improperly using county names or similar sounding names on the product label.
