Senator McGuire, First 5 Humboldt Holds Town Hall Meeting On Improving Children’s Lives

Eureka, Ca. (KIEM)– Senator Mike McGuire and First 5 Humboldt came together for an update on improving children’s lives here on the North Coast.

Three years ago, Senator McGuire and First 5 held a first of its kind meeting to focus on improving youth lives.

Thursday night at town hall, the meeting focused on childhood abuse, specifically how Humboldt County holds some of the highest numbers for childhood abuse, neglect and trauma in California.

California’s Surgeon General Dr. Nadine Burke Harris along with the Executive Director of the Hoopa Tribe Education, Humboldt County Superintendent of Schools, and Director of Humboldt County Department of Health and Human services, were in attendance.

Their primary focus was on solutions to tackle issues here at home and across the state.
