Man in Custody After Standoff with Police

FORT DICK, Ca. (KIEM) – A man is in custody for multiple charges after a six hour standoff with police.

Del Norte County Sheriff’s attempted to make contact with 56-year-old Ronald Berry on Wednesday, Nov. 4 in Fort Dick.

Authorities wanted Berry for violation of his probation and for outstanding warrants from Curry County.

While on site, Berry assaulted deputies with a Bobcat Trailer and fled into his residence.

The six hour standoff began around 1 p.m..

After several hours of failed attempts to communicate with Berry, police deployed tear gas into the residence.

Law enforcement entered and searched for Berry, but could not find him inside.

Police eventually spotted Berry underneath the house, and deployed more tear gas along with bean bag rounds and powdered pepper balls.

Berry still refused to surrender. Law enforcement eventually turned off the power to the house, and cut a large hole through the living room floor.

Berry finally surrendered, and police took him into custody.
