Humboldt County Looks to Ban Target Shooting in Samoa, Establish Safety Zones

Samoa, Ca. (KIEM) — Target shooting on the Samoa Peninsula may soon be a thing of the past.

After complaints from local residents, Humboldt County and the Board of Supervisors is looking to ban target shooting, as well as establish safety zones prohibiting gunfire within 150 yards of an occupied building.

Recently, community members in Samoa have expressed concerns for their safety because of an informal shooting range southeast of town. The Board of Supervisors voted Tuesday to come up with language for the ban. If approved at a future meeting, it will be added to the already existing gun regulations in place.
