EUREKA, Ca. (KIEM)-Families across the country are eagerly waiting for government relief in the form of a stimulus check.

A local nonprofit is encouraging those who can afford it, to pay it forward.

“As many of you know in Humboldt County We have had a shortage of food.” Said Lieutenant Loretta Scott.

The Salvation Army is encouraging those in a position to share a portion of their economic relief check with those who are less fortunate, do.

“Those who aren’t struggling right now, we ask that they consider donating,” said Public Relations Director Sam Jarosz of The Salvation Army Del Oro Division.

Monetary donations are the most effective way to assist those in need, all contributions stay local.

Donations are connected to your zip code.

“It’s not just gonna be food, it’s gonna be other things as we need,” said Scott.

Food in high demand and short supply across the country, including right here in Humboldt County.

A recent drive-thru organized by Food for People helped feed more than a thousand people in just two hours.

The organization is also providing food, shelter, support for first responders, emotional and spiritual support.

The non-profit says, they expect demand to linger for months, if not years.

“So there is going to be a lot of needs, some that we can’t even foresee right now,” Scott said.

There is a high demand for men’s clothing and hygiene products such as mini-shampoo bottles or soap.
