2nd protest stark contrast to 1st, ends peacefully

EUREKA, Ca. (KIEM)-More than 400 people rallied Sunday at the Humboldt County Courthouse against police brutality for a second time this week.

It was a different scene from Saturdays protests, demonstrators made their way to the Eureka police Department peacefully were they were welcomed by both Sheriff William Honsal and Eureka’s Police Chief Steve Watson.

Honsal showed his solidarity with demonstrators by passing around a hand-held megaphone as those who wanted to speak, did. Some more passionate than others.

Watson rallied the Crowd and headed with them back to the courthouse, Honsal close behind.

Community members stood on the steps of the county courthouse and expressed their last words before kneeling in silence for nearly 9 1/2 minutes in honor of George Floyd.

A protest leader urged all the demonstrators to be safe and to leave peacefully.

Law officials said second protest held in Eureka was in stark contrast to the first rally.
