City of Eureka Extends Rent, Eviction Moratorium for Tenants Impacted by Covid-19

Eureka, Ca. (KIEM) — The Eureka City Council votes to extend a rent and eviction moratorium for tenants that have been impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

In a special meeting Monday night, the council unanimously agreed to extend it through July 28th. This comes on the heels of Governor Newsom’s executive order for additional eviction protections. The moratorium includes no-fault evictions and tenants that are unable to pay rent because of Covid-19.

Now, it extends protections to commercial and residential tenants, provides tenants with up to 6 months to pay back rent they couldn’t pay because of Covid, and also bars late fees and interest on delayed payments, as long as the tenant is complying with the city’s ordinance.
