Dr. Frankovich Discusses Surveillance Testing Conducted at Humboldt County Skilled Nursing Facilities

Humboldt County, Ca. (KIEM) — Due to an increased risk, Public Health is conducted surveillance testing at skilled nursing facilities in Humboldt County.

According to County Health Officer Dr. Teresa Frankovich, congregated living settings, like skilled nursing homes and also assisted living facilities, have some of the most vulnerable residents.

Skilled nursing facilities do have a directive from the state when it comes to surveillance testing and how often both staff members and residents are tested. This is something Public Health is working with them to accomplish.

Another round of tests for staff members was run over the weekend, and Dr. Frankovich says all came back negative. She adds that Public Health is doing all they can to help increase access to serology testing in the future. This includes working with assisted living facilities as well to get them access and thinking about testing moving forward.
