FORTUNA, Ca. (KIEM)-The City of Fortuna wants to remind motorists that timed parking zones downtown will be enforced.

The Fortuna Police Department is resuming regular parking enforcement as businesses begin to reopen and as traffic and parking in these areas will see an increase.

Officers will conduct periodic parking enforcement and start to issue warning citations in an effort to educate and inform citizens that regular parking enforcement will be resuming.

And City Hall and the Fortuna Police Department opened back up to the public this week.

Interim police Chief Mike Downey says the reopening couldn’t have come at a better time.

“I think the biggest thing is that, especially right now with dog licensing going on, we’ve just sent out all the notices to everyone in the city that dog licenses are due and renewable,” said Downey.

“So being open gives people the chance to come in and pay, that’s one of the bigger advantages,” he said. “Plus the fact that we’ve gone back to normal hours for live scanning (finger printing) which we do a lot of live scanning people within the community every day.

“It’s a convenience for people to see we are open again you’re able to come in and conduct business and be able to be on their way after that.”
