Two Correctional Deputies Assaulted

EUREKA, Ca. (KIEM) – Two deputies were assaulted this weekend during two separate incidents at the Humboldt County Jail.

According to authorities, first incident on Friday night occurred during a inmate count when inmate Damen Carlson was asked to resolve a compliance violation.

Carlson then allegedly charged the deputy and punched him several times.

The deputy was transported to the hospital with moderate injuries and returned to work on Sunday

Carlson is being charged with additional charges of battery on a officer, felony resisting, and probation violation.

The second incident occurred just after 10 in the morning on Saturday when officers say that inmate Wesley Starritt was offered time out of the cell. Without being provoked, Starritt allegedly punched the deputy in the head.

He has been charged with additional battery charges and felony resisting, and probation violation.
