Starritt deemed incompetent to stand trial

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM) – He has been called a serial killer in the making by Eureka Police Department’s Chief Watson, and now Wesley Lee Starritt has been deemed incompetent to stand trial.

Starritt has been charged for the murder of Roger “Mitch” Clark that occurred last month, as well as two other unprovoked stabbings, both of which took place in Eureka earlier this year.

He was placed into custody with a bail set at $1.5 million.

And on Monday, Starritt appeared before court via video conference following the court appointed evaluation prepared by Jennifer Wilson, M.D.

Upon her assessment, Starritt was deemed incompetent to stand trial at this time which maintains the suspension of criminal proceedings.

Starritt’s next hearing is set for July 14, where the court is expected to receive an additional medical report.
