Eureka Man dies after leading law enforcement on high-speed chase

TEHAMA COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) – A Eureka man dies after leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase reaching over 100 miles per hour in Tehama County.

Thirty-two year-old Jacob Weber Gabriel reportedly robbed a credit union at gun point on Monday and a gas station at gun point on Tuesday, both occurring in Butte County.

After he fled Speedway Gas Station Tuesday night, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Around 10:30 that evening, deputies from the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office attempted to pull a 2006 Infinity FX35 over on State Route 36 before the vehicle sped away.

CHP immediately took over the pursuit that ended in the Infinity colliding with a concrete center divider on SR 36. The vehicle overturned and the driver, later determined to be Gabriel, was ejected.

He suffered major injuries during the collision and was later pronounced deceased at St. Elizabeth’s Hospital in Red Bluff.
