Dr. Frankovich talks Humboldt State University, students returning to campus

ARCATA, Calif. (KIEM) — County Health Officer Dr. Frankovich is taking a moment to address Humboldt State University and the return of students to campus.

A major concern is that colleges bring groups of people together, many of which are coming from other parts of the state and country that have been more heavily impacted by Covid-19.

After receiving guidance from the state on higher education, Frankovich believes we don’t currently meet requirements for on-site instruction. This is due to our increasing case count, multiple outbreaks, and current testing capacity and need, as well as contact investigation demands.

She also acknowledged that the timing of asking for a pause was not the best, but moving forward, Public Health is dedicated to working with HSU to find solutions and what works best.

Frankovich affirms that this decision is not one meant to single out students, but rather, to protect the community as a whole.
