Creek Fire now 820 acres, evacuation warnings lifted

COVELO, Calif. (KIEM) — Firefighters continue to battle the Creek Fire that is burning in Covelo and has now grown to 820 acres. Right now, Cal Fire says it is 70% contained.

Some good news for residents as evacuation warnings for the fire have been lifted, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office. There are no active evacuation warnings or orders at this time.

The vegetation fire first broke out Tuesday afternoon near Highway 162 and Short Creek Road, roughly 4 miles northeast of Covelo.

Crews are working to extinguish hot spots and improve containment lines. A total of 58 personnel are battling the blaze. 2 structure has been destroyed, and no injuries have been reported. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
