Series of structure fires keep firefighters busy over the weekend.

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM)-A series of structure fires igniting one after another kept Humboldt Bay Fire busy Saturday.  

The first incident was reported at about 8:25 a.m., as a structure fire at the 800 block of O Street in Eureka, according to Humboldt Bay Fire.   

The first arriving engine reported a detached shed in the rear of the residence fully involved and a threat the residence and neighboring properties.  

The cause of the fire determined to be from lit candled that was knocked over inside the shed, fire officials say.  No reported injuries in that incident. 

The second incident was a reported commercial structure fire with sprinkler system activation, according to fire officials.   

Humboldt Bay Fire arrived just after 6 p.m. the same day, to a large commercial building with heavy black smoke pouring out of the building.  

A pile of garbage inside the Humboldt Waste Management Authority’s transfer station was discovered on fire.  

The fire was eventually extinguished and HWMA’s staff monitored the facility overnight, according to Executive Director Jill Duffy.  

The third incident was a reported fire in the Greenbelt Area to the rear of the Humboldt County Office of Education located at the 800 block of Myrtle Avenue. 

That fire was called in at about 7:36 p.m. – a fire deep in the Greenbelt, with multiple small explosions was reported.  

Crews discovered a large transient camp set ablaze – approximately 400 feet from the roadway – the fire was extinguished within an hour.  

The cause of the fire is undermined – and there were no reported injuries.  

Humboldt Bay Fire want to remind the public to call 911 immediately if smoke is seen, especially with the current local weather conditions.
