Slater and Devil Fires grow by more than 10,000 acres in one night

SISKIYOU COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — The Slater and Devil Fires grew by more than 10,000 acres overnight and have burnt more than 147,000 acres across Del Norte and Siskiyou counties. Most of the growth overnight was on the Devil Fire north into the Butte Fork drainage. The Slater Fire also spread towards the Devil Fire.

The slater fire is 141,403 acres in size and 10% contained, and the Devil Fire is more than 6,000 acres with 0% containment. Crews are building fire lines along the east side of Pacific Crest Trail to protect the town of Seiad. Another priority, protecting residents in Thompson Creek and Fort Goff and preventing fire spread south of Highway 96 between Seiad and Happy Camp.

Another fire was discovered yesterday on the Fox Creek Ridge near Callahan. That fire is 761 acres and 0% contained.
