August Complex Fire West Zone grows to over 42,000 acres

MENDOCINO COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — The August Complex Fire West Zone continues to burn just east of the county and has grown to more than 42,000 acres.

The West Zone is 42,171 acres with 0% containment. The fire complex as a whole is more than 794,000 acres. The total acreage has decreased from Tuesday’s report due to some acres being counted twice in early Cal Fire reports.

Crews continue to work on beefing up containment lines for the northwest section of the fire near Humboldt County. Deputy of operations Chris Trindade says firefighters are hoping the weather will be on their side Wednesday and into Thursday. Evacuation orders and warnings remain in effect for southern Humboldt County.

Cal fire is holing a virtual community meeting Wednesday night at 7 pm on Facebook to give updates on the fire and answer people’s questions.
