HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM)-A local non-profit group who dedicate its weekends to keep Humboldt clean – was shown a little gratitude in the form of a check – from the Blue Lake Casino.

Aaron Ostrom is the owner and founder of PacOut Green Team.

“It was $20,000, we were extremely ecstatic,” said Ostrom. “Now we’re at the stage where we want to invest that in our community, and definitely continuing what we’re doing with our clean ups.”

Every weekend the group chooses a location in Humboldt to clean-up – last weekend it was Blue Lake.

The PacOut Green Team picked up a total of 850-pounds of trash among other things, including a dead bear.

Ostrom says most items found during clean-up can be disposed of at little to no cost.

“When you participate in one of our clean-ups it brings trash awareness, it creates ownership of that area, and the more area you can pick-up the more ownership we have of our community and therefore the better and the cleaner it will be,” he said.
