WHITETHORN, Calif. (KIEM) — The Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a roadside robbery after local firefighters find a man on the side of the road bound and injured.

Wednesday around 5:30 pm, sheriff’s deputies were called out to a large pull out in the area of Shelter Cove Road and Paradise Ridge Road near Whitethorn after a 45-year-old man was found lying on the ground near a lumber truck, bound with zip ties, and seriously injured. The man was taken to the hospital where he is in critical, but stable condition.

The victim is a local lumber delivery worker and had stopped briefly while in between deliveries. That’s when he was approached by 3 or more men that assaulted him and stole money from inside his truck. The suspects are described only as Spanish-speaking Hispanic male adults.
