Red Salmon Complex burns over 126,000 acres, still 31% contained

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — The Red Salmon Complex Fire has grown to about 126,600 acres and remains 31% contained. There are 613 personnel fighting the fire.

Smoke from the complex and other fires in the area may hang around for several days, which could impact aircraft assisting ground crews. Firefighting traffic has increased on most roads. Extra caution should be used on single lane roads in the Salmon River and Denny areas.

Crews are getting the upper hand on a fire that started over containment lines.

“Up in the Colgrove branch there, working on that slop over. Crews did get line around that. They reported about 10% contained yesterday, so we’re making really good progress on the Colgrove branch,” according to Planning Operations Chief Richard Parrish.

The Klamath and Six Rivers National forests have re-opened portions of the forests. Contact the individual forest office for more information.
