Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office conducts annual sex offender registration compliance sweep

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — The Humboldt County Sherriff’s Office has wrapped up its annual sex offender registration compliance sweep. This is where law enforcement tries to contact every registered sex offender to make sure they’re in compliance with state law.

According to sheriff’s office, there are 475 registered sex offenders in Humboldt County. Of that number, 23 were found to be out of compliance or not properly registered. Deputies were not able to find 48, and 4 registered sex offenders had died.

“It’s very important for people to not so much look at this as the boogeyman out there, but also make sure you’re aware of who you’re allowing into your home and who you’re allowing your kids to be with,” public information officer Samantha Karges says.

The goal of the sweep is to reduce violent sexual offenses in the county and arrest habitual sexual offenders.
