Crescent City residents protest location of new transitional housing

CRESCENT CITY, Calif. (KIEM) — Residents of Crescent City took to the streets to let their voices be heard Wednesday.

The Del Norte County Health and Human Services Department wants to buy the Costal Inn and Suites building. The plan is to turn it into transitional housing units for the homeless. The issue for some residents isn’t the need for a place for the homeless, it’s the location of the motel.

More than two million dollars will be spent to buy the motel.  The money will come from a state program called Operation Home Key. The Del Norte Board of Supervisors will vote on the matter at its regular meeting on Tuesday.
