South Dakota kidnapping suspect arrested in McKinleyville

McKinleyville, Calif. (KIEM)A South Dakota kidnapping suspect has been arrested in McKinleyville earlier this morning.

According to the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office, 39-year-old Cody Leigh Gutzmer was wanted on kidnapping charges out of South Dakota when he unlawfully took his two children and left to the McKinleyville area.

Officials located the associated vehicles outside a home on the 18-hundred block of Maplewood drive and found Gutzmer inside the residence with the two children.

Gutzmer surrendered peacefully, and the children were located unharmed and placed in protective custody.
