A third grade class at Washington Elementary has set a new school record for perfect attendance

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM)- A third grade class at Washington Elementary in Eureka has set a new school record for perfect attendance.

Before the school moved to distance learning, the record for perfect attendance for a class was about 5 days.

Andrew Dehart’s third grade class broke that record and his class has been able to maintain perfect attendance for 52 consecutive days.

“It’s really important for us at Washington Elementary just because it makes us feel so connected to the families especially during a time when connections can be difficult because of distance learning and we’re not here with the students,” said Andrew Dehart, a third grade teacher at Washington Elementary. “So, it makes me feel really happy and it makes me glad to think that the parents and families are putting so much effort into making sure the students are in class.”

Dehart says it has been an adjustment for he and his students to find ways to cope with the pandemic.
