Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office investigating missing woman found deceased in Weitchpec

WEITCHPEC, Calif. (KIEM) — A 44-year-old woman was found dead last week after she was reported missing by a friend.

Last Thursday, deputies with the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office found the body of Michelle Ann Mehalopoulos in the Iron Gate Road area in Weitchpec on some property she owned. Officials say no evidence of foul play has been found, and an autopsy is scheduled for today.

“Right now, we just don’t know. There is no clear evidence that shows how this person died, so an autopsy has to be performed. We have our team come together and our doctor come together, they do the autopsy. Then, a cause of death will be made,” according to Humboldt County Sheriff William Honsal.

The case remains under investigation. Anyone with information should contact the sheriff’s office.
