WIILOW CREEK, Calif. (KIEM)-With Humboldt County now in the purple tier for COVID-19, some businesses have opted to shut down even though they haven’t been required to.

New River Recycling, also known as Tom’s Trash in Willow Creek, opted to shut down the first weekend of this month to help stop the spread of COVID-19.

Joshua McKnight is the owner, and says he understands the frustration, but it’s in for the best interest of both his customers and staff.

“We have shut down when we felt like it was appropriate for the safety of my employees and the community,” he said.

“So, people come, ready to recycle, and they’re not able to do that then that is upsetting for them as well,” McKnight, “We’re doing all for safety sake.”

For now, the facility will continue to accept trash and yard waste.

McKnight says, CRV buybacks continue they will update their website to reflect that.
