Free generators for tribal elders, Yurok officials urge elders update their address

(KIEM)

KLAMATH, Calif. (KIEM)-All Yurok residents’ 60-years of age or older are eligible to receive a free generator – as part of the Yurok Tribe’s comprehensive effort to confront all facets of the COVID-19 crisis – the devices were funded through the U.S. CORONAVIRUS Aid Relief and Economic Security Act or CARES Act.

The effort is led by the Yurok Health and Human Services.

Those who care for elders can also apply by filling out an application – households with more than one elder will receive one unit – which will be delivered in three stages.

Elders living in Humboldt and Del Norte counties are included in the first phase.

Tribal staff wearing personal protective equipment will offer to place the generator in the home owners preferred location and will also provide tutorial on how to operate the unit – upon request.

Elders who haven’t yet received an application are urged to contact the Yurok Health and Human Services to request one.
