Pedestrian struck by car in critical condition, 2nd pedestrian hit within a week

ERUEKA, Calif. (KIEM)-A 65-year-old man is in critical- but stable condition after he was hit by a car at the intersection of L and 4th streets, Tuesday afternoon.

According to Eureka police, the 54-year-old man who struck the pedestrian remained on-scene – and cooperated with police.

EPD’s initial investigation indicates the vehicle was in the center lane on 4th Street.

As the pedestrian crossed the road at L Street, he was hit.

The pedestrian sustained major injuries, and was treated at the scene before being taken to the hospital. 

The exact cause of the collision remains under investigation.

This is the second vehicle crash involving a pedestrian within days of each other.

According to the California Highway Patrol a person was sustained major injuries after being hit by two vehicles – just before 7 o’clock Saturday night on Elk River Road in Eureka.

According to CHP, as a result of the accident, the victim has two broken legs and a broken arm – and was alert and able to communicate with first responders before taken to the hospital for treatment.

A truck involved in the accident left the scene – the color, make and model of that vehicle is unknown – the first vehicle stuck aroud to speak with law enforcement officials.

The victim’s condition is unknown at this time, and their name is has not been released.
