Baby returns home after months of specialized care, initial lifesaving efforts given by local fire crew

EUREKA, Calif. (KIEM)-A baby discovered unconscious by fire personnel is back home with his family in Eureka after months of specialized care in San Francisco.

Humboldt Bay Fire received a call on Christmas Eve of a reported 7-month-old baby boy lying on the ground, pale, not breathing, and without a pulse.

Advanced life support methods were performed on baby Phoenix until an ambulance arrived – he then was immediately taken to the hospital.

With continued CPR Baby Phoenix’s heart rate stabilized and regained a pulse.

Engineer Brett Egbert, responsible for driving engine 8113 to the incident, says quick response helped save the baby’s life.

It was joint team effort by Fire Captain and Paramedic John Goodman, Firefighter Logan Bongio and Engineer Egbert.
