HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM) — A large law enforcement presence in King Salmon Friday morning as the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office responded to a domestic violence incident involving a young child.

Just before 6:30 Friday morning, HCSO was called out to the 1300 block of Buhne Drive. A female victim said her boyfriend, 47-year-old Kyle Muhaw, had assaulted her. The victim and an infant were able to escape and are safe. She told deputies there was a firearm and explosives inside.

The swat team, explosive ordinance detail, and crisis negotiators responded to the scene. Muhaw barricaded himself inside the residence once they arrived. A warrant for Muhaw’s arrest was issued, and around 3 pm he was taken into custody. He will be booked for domestic violence, terrorist threats, and firearm charges.

Area residents were asked to shelter in place. The EOD team was working to clear the scene given threats about an explosive device. Buhne Drive has since been reopened.
