Many Events are Moving Forward While Many are Cancelling in Midst of the Surge in Humboldt County

HUMBOLDT COUNTY, Calif. (KIEM)- the North Coast Repertory Theatre held its first showing of Hamlet on July 31st with two sold out shows after that. The theatre stated they would continue the play until August 22nd. However it was announced this week the rest of the shows are cancelled and the North Coast Repertory Theatre is closed until further notice.

They are working on issuing refunds today.

“We were faced with a public heath crisis due to this current surge. Even if we were as responsible as humanly possible, there is that chance. Additional spread in our community is unacceptable,” said Calder Johnson, Artistic Director at Repertory Theatre.

Many other events say they are too far along to cancel. The Humboldt County and Del Norte County Fair are still planning on fully operating with Covid protocols in place.

We are working on having a fair at a safe manner with all the regulations  and requirements that follow CDC guidelines. We’re planning on moving forward, “ said Katherine Ziemer, administrator at Humboldt County Fair.

Humboldt County’s mask mandate is going into effect on Saturday. Businesses who are still open are complying with state and and county guidelines.
