The 2nd Annual Home for the Holidays Decorating Contest Winners have been announced

EUREKA, Calif.(KIEM)- The 2nd Annual Home for the Holidays Decorating Contest was created last year by the City of Eureka to celebrate the holidays with loved ones during the pandemic.

“We thought it was a great thing to do, without having to gather, and so that is what started the home for the holiday’s contest, and we hope to bring this annual tradition throughout the years,” said Christina Tyson, Economic Development Coordinator with the City of Eureka.

This year nearly 40 entered the contest but the grand prize winner was Leon Chalmers, whose Christmas display can be found on “P” street.

“Yay, first place. It’s not about the first place either, and it’s just about bringing joy to the people. And the community, and that’s what it’s all about and not about the contest, not for me anyway,” said Leon Chalmers, First Place Winner.

Chalmers will receive the coveted Mayor’s Award along with a 500 dollar gift certificate. The second place will receive a 250 dollar gift certificate and the third place a 100 dollars.

“Merry Christmas! Happy New Year.. Come on by  27th “P” street and walk around and enjoy the season and be kind to people,” said Leon Chalmers.

Chalmers plans to offer train rides to kids tonight and Santa will be making an appearance.
