An update on the online petition that is circulating through Humboldt County has now reached 2,233 signees. Supporters are calling for spectators to fill the stands once again at high school sporting events. This is in response to a temporary no spectators mandate that was implemented in The Humboldt-Del Norte League. It started January 7th and is set to continue through January 23rd amid another covid-19 surge. The goal is to allow for competition to continue while minimizing the spread of covid-19. Petition signees argue that this mandate is affecting the mental health of high school athletes. Supporters of the Change.org petition say that preventative measures currently taken by the league are more than enough.
