It’s called the Positive Assistance Fund and it’s being launched by the social activist group, the Eureka Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence.

The emergency fund will support HIV+ people with micro-grants of up to 500 dollars per year. The launch follows the recent dissolutions of the Humboldt County AIDS Task Force as well as the Redwood AIDS Information Network in Southern Humboldt.

Press Release by the Eureka’s Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence:

“Eureka Sisters announce the “Positive Assistance Fund”

Eureka, California – January, 2023

The Eureka Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, Abbey of the BIG RED WOOD, are honored to announce the launch of the Positive Assistance Fund. An emergency fund which supports HIV+ people in need with microgrants of up to $500 per year, and has deep roots in the legacy of transformative and powerful HIV & AIDS activism in Humboldt County.

Having served as the glittery umbrella for the Humboldt County AIDS Task Force [ATF] for several years, the Sisters were entrusted with maintaining their AIDS Emergency Fund when the ATF dissolved in 2014. Since that time the Sisters have informally partnered with local healthcare and public healthcare providers to distribute microgrants when needed, distributing over $5,000 over the last 6 years alone.

In 2022 the Sisters once again were asked to carry the legacy of this work when Southern Humboldt’s Redwood AIDS Information Network & Services (RAINS) chose to pass their torch along as well after decades of service. Long time friends and collaborators, the Sisters are incredibly grateful to the members of RAINS for their service to an underserved part of our community and will keep the spirit of their work alive for many years to come.

To honor the legacy of both ATF and RAINS, and to bring the funds into the modern era, the Sisters chose to bolster our microgrant program and relaunch it as the Positive Assistance Fund [PAF or +AF], with an application process and its own page on our website.

Specific eligibility and guidelines around how one can apply for the PAF can be found at www.eurekasisters.org by clicking on the “+ Assistance Fund” button on the front page.

Tax-deductible donations to the Positive Assistance Fund can be accepted through our website by clicking on the “Donation” button and selecting PAF from the menu.”
