Seasonal Fire Restrictions on Northwestern California Land

An announcement was made by the Bureau of Land Management, putting fire restrictions in place on public lands starting Monday, July 3, 2023. The areas impacted by this restriction include Butte, Shasta, Trinity, Siskiyou, Humboldt, Del Norte, and northern Mendocino counties.

With warmer temperatures expected this summer, the fire restriction is considered necessary to prevent fires in our area, especially where droughts and dry vegetation is present.

According to a press release, the following restrictions are in place until fire danger subsides:

-No campfires, briquette/charcoal barbeques, or stove fires are allowed outside of agency-provided fire rings or barbeques at designated developed recreation sites

-No smoking (except in designated areas)

-No motorized vehicles/tools (chainsaws with functional spark arrestors may be used for firewood before 1 pm)

-Target shooting is allowed from a half-hour before sunrise to noon daily

-No possession or use of fireworks, including those labeled “safe and sane”
