Yurok Tribal Police Department; Local Partners Lead Crisis Intervention Team Training

Crescent City, California — The Yurok Tribal Police Department is partnering with other local law enforcement agencies as well as public health service providers to host a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) training in Del Norte County the week of August 7th.

Kelly Johnson, Yurok Tribal Police Department’s CIT Coordinator, will lead the five-day training. Presentations will include a wide variety of topics, including suicide prevention as well as substance use disorder recovery. Participants will also learn how to recognize specific mental health disorders, which includes dementia and Alzheimer’s.

Anyone interested in attending must register before 5 pm on Friday, July 28. Training will be at the Crescent Fire Protection District Building from 8 am to 5 pm August 7-11, 2023. Registration fee is $50. Lunch is provided each day. Registration forms can be found at https://tinyurl.com/3fjkva7d.

Training is open to law enforcement officers, correctional officers, probation officers, dispatchers, and health service providers who interact with people dealing with mental health crises.

The Yurok Tribal Police Department plans to put on another Crisis Intervention Team training in six months. The dates have not yet been determined.
