Monday night Humboldt County experienced a significant amount of lightning, as a result of that activity–multiple fires sparked across the Six Rivers National Forest. Adrianne Rubiaco, the Fire Public Affair Specialist at Six Rivers explained.

sot: “All the way as far north as the Oregon border, south to close to Mendocino County and that encompasses almost 1 million acres of the Six Rivers National Forest,”  Rubiaco said. “This morning, we had 13 reported fires throughout the day.”

At this time the fires have not been contained.

“So right  now, we are working on ordering the necessary personnel to get on scene to help work those fires and they’re currently under a full suppression strategy,”  Rubiaco said. “We’re going direct with our initial attack and we’re being quite aggressive. The fires are widespread across the forest, there’s four districts in the forest and each one of the districts has multiple fires.”

Firefighters will continue to patrol the forest tonight as another lightning storm is expected to hit.
