Festejando Nuestra Comunidad: A cultural fair filled with health resources and learning opportunities

Festejando nuestra comunidad is a community resource fair and celebration to promote unity, culture and well-being within the Latinx community.

“People should care about this event because it is a celebration,” said Irene Gonzalez, the Marketing and Hospitality committee. “The name is Festejando Nuestra Comunidad, so we are celebrating our community, our Latino community or Hispanic community or Latina community. It is an opportunity for people to know about the Latino community or Latina community and have an exposure to the businesses, the food, the music and things that we have out here in Humboldt County.”

There will be keynote speakers, Aztec dancers, baile folklorico and kid activities. There will be many workshops to take part in some being about mindfulness, how to run for office, learning about I-10 forms and other forms of life skills training. The last time this event was held was in 2017.

“Covid took a toll on a lot of community events and so this is a relaunching of that event and continuing the tradition of doing it every year,” Gonzalez said.

The event program will be bilingual. There will be interpreters on site to assist with direct interactions between Spanish-speaking attendees and non-Spanish speakers.

Festejando Nuestra Comunidad is September 16 at College of the Redwoods starting at 11 a.m. This is an all-ages event and all are welcome.
