The Fridtof Nansen eight-day cruise ship arrived at the Schneider Dock with about 100 passengers from Vancouver to enjoy the Redwoods, Sequoia Park and Old Town Eureka. Their final destination is San Diego.

“Post Covid there’s been a shift in the cruise ship industry where they’re shifting to smaller boats and so there’s a lot of European boats that are coming over to the West Coast that are looking at the different ports and the smaller ports,” said Swan Asbury, the Economic Development Manager. “And so Eureka’s really been a hit.”

Tourism officials have been working to bring more cruises and visitors to town. There will be two more cruise ships coming to Humboldt Bay on October 2 and 7.

“I’d like to thank the Harbor District and the county of Humboldt,” Asbury said. “The city of Eureka has been partnering with them and this has really been working out well.– It’s been a great partnership and we’re excited to keep it going.”
