It’s Officially Pumpkin Season! Organic Matters Ranch Opened the Gates their 11th Annual Pumpkin Patch

“We’ve been coming out here since the kids were little […] so since our son was one years old.”

Is what Eureka resident, Patrick Wilkes, said about the Organic Matters Ranch “U-Pick Pumpkin Patch.” Visiting with his wife, Catherine, and his kids. 

The Organic Matters Ranch has been hosting their pumpkin patch for 11 years now. Although this wide open farm has plenty of pumpkins to choose from, they also have winter squashes up for grabs too–like hubbard squash, acorn squash and more.

“It started because I love pumpkins and then my son, when he was young, my favorite field trip was going to a pumpkin patch,” Heather Plaza, owner of Organic Matters Ranch said. “We used to go out to blue lake at Christie’s, so it’s been a long tradition of ours […] it’s 11 acres total and squash grown and we have over 50 varieties of pumpkins to choose from.”

This family focused patch has all you need to get into the fall spirit.

“I like how it’s more than just the pumpkin patch and they do field trips here,” Catherine Wilkes said. “We like to continue to support them because they give back to the community.”

“We like that it’s organic too, we like to shop local and, you know, support our local growers and farms as well,” Patrick Wilkes said. “That’s really important to us.” 

This year the ranch has included a hay-maze, a petting zoo, and if you’re looking for a giant pumpkin, 2 acres are dedicated to 60 plus pound pumpkins. 

Zero pesticide residues are on these colorful gourds so, if you’re thinking of making a pie or roasting some pumpkin seeds–everything here is safe to eat.

“Most of the stuff that you get here that we do call specialty squash is edible,” Plaza said. “You can take it home and decorate and keep it for months and eat it.”

The Organic Matters Pumpkin Patch is open everyday during the month of October. Weekdays from 12pm to 6pm and weekends from 10am to 6pm

Organic Matters will also be hosting their 2nd Annual Fall Harvest Craft Fair this month. It’ll take place Oct. 14th through the Oct. 15th and Oct. 21st through the 22nd.
