Morning fire sets trailer ablaze in Eureka mobile home park

At the Eureka Mobile Village on Allard Road, the flames had engulfed a home around 8:50 a.m.

The manager of the park arrived moments before firefighters did.

“I was in my office and a resident notified me that there was a fire,” Eureka Mobile Village manager Christopher Parton said. “I ran over there, I got a fire extinguisher from the laundry room and opened the door and it was unlocked, and sprayed what I could inside.”

As Parton got to the scene, Humboldt Bay Fire responded to the blaze. They heard that a resident may have been in the building, but luckily no one was inside.

“The trailer is vacant. The occupant did move out a couple of weeks ago, so there is no one in it, so we are just going to investigate it and see what we could find,” Humboldt Bay Fire public information officer Talia Flores said.

The fire was knocked down within the first few minutes of the fire crews arrival. Three engines were called to the scene.

The whole incident had Parton a little nervous to help with the situation as best he could.

“When I opened the door, I was thinking about how danger it was – or dangerous it was and how I was playing ‘the hero,’ but I don’t think I put myself in too much danger and I just wanted to get the fire out as quick as we could,” Parton said.

After some investigation, the fire was ruled to be accidental in nature with $25,000 worth of damage.

Humboldt Bay Fire reminds residents that with daylight saving time ending this weekend, now is a good time to check and change the batteries in your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide alarms.
