McKinleyville High School was on lockdown briefly on Tuesday as the sheriff’s office searched for a potentially armed man.

Deputies received a report around 11:25 a.m. of a man “possibly armed with holstered handgun on his waist” who was seen on the high school campus.

During the search, McKinleyville High School and nearby Morris Elementary were locked down as a precaution.

Law enforcement cleared the campuses after they received a report of the armed man near the intersection of Highway 101 and Murray Road, not the high school campus as originally believed.

Deputies were unable to locate the suspicious individual or identify any threat to the schools or students.

If you have any information about this situation, please call the Humboldt County Sheriff’s Office.
