Leggett post office fire caused by lightning, mail rerouted to Garberville

Yesterday evening in Leggett, Mendocino County, lightning struck a Redwood Tree, causing it to catch fire.

The tree then fell and spread fire to the town’s post office.

Video provided to Redwood News by MendoFever.com shows fire throughout the building around 5:45 p.m.

Luckily, firefighters were able to quickly contain the fire, preventing any additional threat to nearby structures.

All mail and mail service in Leggett will be made available at the Garberville post office until further notice, starting March 4th.

Customers can pick up mail at the Garberville Post Office Monday through Friday 9:00 am to 4:30 pm and Saturday 10:00 am to 2:00 pm.
