With healthcare options sparse, the free clinic in Eureka will provide free dental, vision, and medical services.

California Care Force is partnering with the area to provide first come, first serve services on Friday, July 12, and Saturday, July 13, at the Adorni Center in Eureka.

“This is happening because, a member of the Humboldt Unitarian Universalist Fellowship retired dentist and retired minister Tom Lewis has done, free dental clinics not only around the country but internationally,” clinic committee member Beverly Morgan Lewis said. “And he has been so moved by this that he wanted to bring this opportunity to Humboldt County.”

Dental services include cleanings, fillings, and x-rays. Vision services offer eye exams and glasses.

“The medical area, we’re able to do screenings for blood pressure and glucose and sports exams. But not as extensive on the medical end, but, we certainly have a medical presence,” Lewis said.

The clinic is filling a much-needed gap in the healthcare community.

“It’s really important that we’re able to bring this clinic to Humboldt County because, well, for a number of reasons. One is that, there aren’t a lot of dentists or optometrists that accept Medi-Cal. Dentistry and vision are not covered by Medicare,” Lewis said. “Some people who actually have coverage are not able to afford the co-pays. And so we’re here to serve all of those all of those needs.”

No insurance is needed to receive the services, but more volunteers are needed on the professional side.

“We need more professional volunteers. We need one more optometrist for Friday [July 12th]. We need a physician for Friday and Saturday. We need several more dentists, dental hygienists and dental assistants,” Lewis said. “California Care Force, who’s providing the infrastructure for this is able to bring 20 dental chairs to Humboldt County. We would like to see all those chairs filled, with patients receiving services.”
